Biola women’s tennis pushes Colorado Mesa to the limit but eventually falls, 6-3.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Playing for the second time in as any days, the Eagles pushed the visiting Colorado Mesa Mavericks to three close scores in doubles before just losing out, 6-3.

Biola jumped out to a fast start with Esther Lee and Tinisee Kandakai winning their first set before being pushed to a decisive third set. In the meantime, Lauren Lee took her second singles match in a row with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Taylor Hershey to tie the team score at 1-1.

The Mavericks would eventually take a 4-2 lead after singles, but not before L. Lee and Esther Lee would both turn in winning performances at singles to set themselves up for another quality doubles performance. Kandakai almost added to the Eagles' tally with a win of her own at No. 3 singles, breaking her opponents serve to climb all the way back from 5-2 to 5-4 in the third. But a decisive love-game from Rebecca Osterberg cut Kandakai's surge short.

After being down 6-5 in No. 1 doubles, E. Lee and L. Lee clawed back to force a tiebreaker at 7-7. The duo would take the tiebreaker 7-4 to improve to a 3-1 at the No. 1 spot for Head Coach David Goodman. But the Mavericks would take the other two pairings by scores of 8-6 to sure up their ninth win of the season at 6-3.

The Eagles will get a few days off before returning to the Biola Tennis Center on Mar. 21 to face Arizona Christian. Play is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
