Women's Golf Defeats Fourth-Ranked Stanford

RANCHO SANTA FE, California – Another day, another close 3-2 victory at the SDSU March Mayhem event for the Pepperdine women’s golf team, with today’s win coming against fourth-ranked Stanford in match play.
On Monday, the Waves posted a 3-2 win over Baylor before beating the Cardinal by the same score on Tuesday at the par-72 Farms Golf Club.
Hira Naveed won her second match in as many days, while Hannah Haythorne and Momoka Kobori got the other victories.
Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) posted an impressive 3&1 victory against Stanford’s Mika Liu, the nation’s 20th-ranked player. Kobori won the first hole and never trailed, and won on holes 10 and 11 to go four up with four to play.
Naveed (Perth, Australia) defeated Shannon Aubert 3&2. Even after nine holes, Naveed won the next two to seize control of the match. Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai’i/IMG Academy) recorded the most dramatic victory, beating Kelsey Zeng 1-up. Haythorne led the entire match and earned the Waves the point after the players halved the final two holes.
In Stanford’s wins, Andrea Lee (ranked #4 in the country) defeated Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) 8&7, and Ziyi Wang defeated Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) 5&4.
The Waves are competing in the round-robin portion of the tournament. They will face West Coast Conference rival BYU on Wednesday to complete the event.
