Eagles drop game one to CBU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — On Major League Baseball's Opening Day, Concordia Baseball hit the road for a four game series against the California Baptist Lancers (17-10, 10-7 PWC). The Eagles posted four hits but failed to get a run on the board through nine innings, dropping the contest 14-0.

California Baptist was picked as the favorite in the 2018 PacWest preseason coaches poll with seven first place votes. The Lancers added four players to the preseason All-PacWest team including the preseason pitcher of the year, Dylan Stowell.

Starting on the hill in tonights matchup was Alex Zalasky. The LHP threw for five innings, allowed eight runs, and struck out three Lancers. The sophomore is 3-5 in the 2018 season after receiving todays loss. In relief, Isaiah Bettencourt allowed eight hits and striking out two after 2.1 innings pitched.

In an effort to wake up Concordia's bats, Davis Tominaga doubled to right center field in the fourth inning but was left on third. Tony Garcia III followed with a double to right center of his own in the seventh. Mike Nava and Bailey Collins hit a single a piece in an eighth inning potential rally but the Eagles bats fell short once again.
