Trevor Olson returns to USD this season as an Assistant Coach.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego has named Trevor Olson as its new assistant coach for women's basketball; head coach Cindy Fisher announced it today.
“Trevor is an outstanding young coach that is very passionate
about the game of basketball” stated Fisher. “I feel very fortunate to
add such a quality person to our coaching staff. I knew when he was a
part of our program in the past that he would be someone I would keep a
close eye on and hopefully bring back to USD as an assistant coach.
Trevor’s organization, work ethic, enthusiasm and knowledge of the game
will make him a huge asset to our program"
Olson returns to USD after spending the previous two seasons at
Henderson State University, where he served as both the graduate
assistant, and the top assistant on Jill Thomas’ staff.
In the 2015-16 season, as the top assistant on the Reddies
coaching staff, he helped guide the program
to a fifth place finish (out
of 12 teams) in the Great American Conference, earning HSU a birth in
the GAC Basketball Tournament (top 8 teams make the tournament).
Additionally, he helped increased the Reddies conference win total by
five games from the previous season (from 8 to 13). His duties included
player development at the guard and post position, creating scouting
reports for all contests, overseeing all academic support activities,
community outreach, elite camp coordinating and served as the program’s
recruiting coordinator.
As a graduate assistant coach in 2014-15 for HSU, Olson was
responsible for recruiting, academic coordination, practice planning and
opponent scouting.
Olson served as an undergraduate coach for the Toreros women's
basketball team from 2009-2013, where he oversaw the women's practice
team, helped implement scouting reports and worked with assistant
coaches on individual player development. He also recorded statistics
and shot chart information for all regular season and tournament games.
During the 2012 season, San Diego held a program-best 26-9 record
and made it to the Women's NIT Final Four. In 2013, San Diego posted
its first-ever consecutive 20-win season (22-10) and made an appearance
in the WCC championship game, as well as advancing to the second round
of the WNIT.
Olson graduated in May of 2013 with a Bachelor of Accountancy Degree and a 3.79 GPA from the University of San Diego.
Prior to his time at San Diego, he attended Bishop Blanchet High
School (Seattle, Wash.), where he was a four-year varsity player and won
the Scholar Athlete Award all four years.
Before working at Henderson State, Olson spent one year working at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP as a Core Assurance Associate.
He served as the president of the Phi Kappa Theta CA Phi Delta
fraternity at USD during his college years and helped recruit over 100
members to a fraternity founded on servant leadership.
