Oxy Drops Game 1 of SCIAC Tourney

LOS ANGELES — The No. 9 Occidental baseball couldn't string together any offense in a 2-1 loss to Redlands in its SCIAC Postseason Tournament opener on Saturday.

Oxy's lone bright spot was a solo home run by catcher Bryan Smith in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Both starting pitchers were outstanding. Redlands' Michael Collins earned the win, going 8.1 innings with just one earned run and nine strikeouts, and Oxy's Scott Ericksen went the distance, giving up two runs in nine innings pitched.

Redlands' John White got the save, pitching the final two outs.

The Bulldogs got their first run in the top of the second when Ryan Franklin grounded into a fielder's choice and their second in the third when Joey Warner singled in Christian Conci.
