MALIBU, Calif. -- No. 6 UCLA (2-0) continued its great start in 2016 with a 3-2 upset over No. 3 Hawai'i (0-2) in its second match of the season against a Top 4 team at the Pepperdine Kick Off at Zuma Beach.

It marked the Bruins' first win over Hawai'i as UCLA improves to 1-4 all-time against the Rainbow Wahine.

Hawai'i got a hard-fought three-set win on court one when Mikayla Tucker and Nikki Taylor defeated UCLA's freshmen pair of Nicole McNamara and Megan McNamara, 21-18, 16-21, 15-9.

The Bruins then tied it up at 1-1 with a tightly contested straight set victory at the No. 2 flight as sophomore Elise Zappia and freshman Izzy Carey defeated Hawai'i's Katie Spieler and Lara Schreiber, 23-21, 27-25.

Hawai'i then took a 2-1 lead when its No. 3 doubles team of Ari Homayun and Emily Maglio defeated the Bruins' senior Kamila Tan and sophomore Ivey Schmitt in straight sets, 21-19, 21-16.
