* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Plan on difficult travel conditions
especially over the passes. Total snow accumulations: Above 7000
feet 1 to 2 feet with localized higher amounts. Between 6500
and 7000 feet 5 to 10 inches with up to 4 inches at lake level.
Higher amounts are possible at lake level if snow levels drop
faster.
* WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area.
* WHEN...11 AM Friday to 11 PM Saturday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for significant reductions in
visibility at times. Wind gusts up to 100 mph over the ridges
and 40 mph in the lower elevations with wave heights of 2 to 4
feet on Lake Tahoe.
...SIGNIFICANT MOUNTAIN SNOW TODAY INTO THE WEEKEND...
.A significant early season storm is forecast to bring snow and
wind to the mountains of interior Northern California today
through Saturday evening. A couple of feet of snow are possible
above 6000 feet by Saturday night. Motorists planning travel into
the mountains during this time frame should be prepared for
winter driving conditions. Lighter snowfall is expected on Sunday.

* WHAT...Heavy wet snow expected. Plan on difficult travel
conditions. Tree branches could fall as well. Total wet snow
accumulations of 6 to 12 inches, with localized amounts up to 24
inches, are expected.
* WHERE...Western Plumas County/Lassen Park and West Slope
Northern Sierra Nevada.
* WHEN...Noon today to 11 PM Saturday.
* WIND...Southwest wind gusts up to 40 mph over higher terrain.
* SNOW LEVELS...Around 6500 to 7000 feet Friday dropping to around
5000 to 6000 feet Saturday evening.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for significant reductions in
visibility at times as wind and snowfall combine.

PST SUNDAY ABOVE 7000 FEET...
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Plan on difficult travel conditions.
Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are expected above
7000 feet, with localized amounts up to 15 inches over the
higher elevations. Accumulations of 1 to 2 inches could fall as
low as 6000 feet.
* WHERE...Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Kings Canyon National
Park, above 7000 feet. Heaviest snow amounts near Yosemite.
* WHEN...From 5 AM PDT Saturday to 4 PM PST Sunday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Difficult travel conditions with reduced
visibility and blowing snow. Possible power outages.

Yuba Pass.

* WHEN...5 PM Friday to 5 PM Saturday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for reduced visibilities at
times. Wind gusts up to 40 mph in the valleys and up to 70 mph

snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches west of Highway 395 above
7000 feet with up to 1 foot near the Sierra Crest. Near and
east of Highway 395 up to 2 inches of snow is expected.
* WHERE...Mono County.
* WHEN...5 AM Saturday to 4 AM Sunday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for reduced visibilities at
times. Wind gusts to 40 mph in the lower elevations with
Sierra ridge winds gusting to 100 mph.

Even light snowfall causes major travel delays, especially during
periods of high traffic volume. Be sure to allow extra time to
