USA Went Down to the Wire with Rival Great Britain

Fourth quarter heroics by Jake Williams was not enough to bolster the Americans past the defending World Champions, Great Britain. Williams delivered 12 of Team USA’s 19 points in the fourth quarter against the British.

“I tried to stay in the moment and take what the defense gives me. If they leave me open, I’m probably gonna make it,” said Williams.

Hollermann and Balanced Scoring Fuel Lopsided Victory for USA Women

In a bounce back game against Spain, seven women contributed to the scoring for the Americans, and it was Rose Hollermann who stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. From the outset of the game, Hollermann appeared to be intent on asserting her will on the opposition. She started the game in a double big set on the right wing with Natalie Schneider, and when the Spanish defenders opted not to jump her, she wasted no time to go into her shooting motion and delivered the ball perfectly through the net. She followed up with the exact same set on the next play and, when the defenders jumped, she made the next read in the progression delivering a timely pass to Schneider for the layup.

USA Wheelchair Rugby Defeats Canada in Game 2 in Tokyo

Tokyo, Japan - In its second match of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo the USA Wheelchair Rugby team found itself trailing Canada in the first half. Both teams strangely started the game in dark jerseys, Canada in black and USA in blue. In the second half the USA came out of the locker room in white jerseys. You might say the color change sparked the team because the U.S. turned things around in the final two quarters. They took advantage of some Canada turnovers and made some incredible passes and catches to defeat Canada 58-54. The win improved their record to 2-0. Team USA will take on Great Britain on Thursday night (U.S. Time) hoping to remain undefeated in pool play.

Opening match of Tokyo 2020 tournament goes to U.S., 8-6

TOKYO, Japan (Aug. 26, 2021) – The USA Men’s Goalball Team served notice they are a force to be reckoned with in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games goalball competition as they opened with an 8-6 victory over defending world champion Brazil on Thursday at Makuhari Messe Hall C. The win came a day after Brazil defeated defending Paralympic champion Lithuania, 11-2.

USA Men fend off an aggressive German squad in their opening game

Out of necessity, the first game was a feeling out process to say the least. Neither team shot well from the field, with the Americans registering a scant 33% field goal percentage in the first quarter. It would be the defensive speed and switching of the team that allowed them to remain close in throughout the first half.  That defensive intensity led to a similarly low shooting percentage for Germany with the exception of the 3-ball. Tommy Böhme (long time teammate of Michael Paye at RSV Lahn-Dill in Wetzlar, Germany) contributed to a 56% 3-point performance in the half.
