WHAT
SFUSD is celebrating the grand opening of the McAteer Culinary Center as part of National School Lunch Week (October 14-18). The newly upgraded kitchen will prepare fresh meals to be distributed to Early Education sites and the two high schools on the McAteer campus (The Academy and Ruth Asawa School of the Arts).

WHY
The McAteer Culinary Center serves as a model for a central kitchen for the district, and helps to improve procurement practices as part of the district’s adoption of the Good Food Purchasing Policy and commitment to the health and equity of students and the food system.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with Superintendent Dr. Vincent Matthews will begin at 11:15 a.m. Guests will then enjoy a school lunch menu including Oven-Fried Rice with Egg Rolls, a Make-Your-Own Taco Bar, Deli Sandwiches with Caprese Salad and Organic Tomato Soup, and more. Following lunch, tours of the new facility will be provided.
