A key goal of the City of West Hollywood’s Aging in Place/Aging in Community five-year strategic plan is supporting the quality of life, health, and well-being of older adults. The City is in the final two years of its 2016-2020 Strategic Plan and is soliciting feedback on the Aging in Place program. The survey can be found here: www.weho.org/aging
The survey helps the City gather community input about issues such as housing, public transportation, public safety, and overall satisfaction with the quality of life in West Hollywood. Currently, the City provides an array of services for its senior, at-risk, and disabled community members; however, as the population ages, the scale of needs is growing. The City recognizes that only forward-thinking action can meet challenges that lie ahead.
The vision for the 2016-2020 Strategic Plan is to help the City of West Hollywood evolve as a community where aging is embraced, and where people can remain in their housing for as long as possible. The Strategic Plan builds on the City’s existing policies and programs, such as arts and cultural events, lifespan-friendly housing, social services, and other approaches to wellness, while responding to the demographic trend of people living longer. The Plan supports individuals’ independence and safety to live at home within a community they know and where they are comfortable. This approach offers many benefits to adults as they live longer lives, including a stable sense of community, more life satisfaction, and better health and self-esteem, all of which are central to successful aging.
