Winter Holiday Cartoonist-in-Residence: Claire Tiwald

December 28th, 2013, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Free and open to the public

San Francisco, California - The Cartoon Art Museum will host Claire Tiwald on Saturday, December 28th, 2013 from 1pm to 3pm as part of its ongoing Cartoonist-in-Residence program. Visitors will be given the chance to talk to Tiwald, view and discuss her work. This event is free and open to the public.

Claire Tiwald is a mixed media artist interested in all platforms of imagery, working with mediums such as graphite, ink, sculpture, digital images, writing, painting, and photography. She received a Bachelor of Art from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2009 and is currently a resident of Oakland, California.

Tiwald has spent much of her life on the road, intoxicating herself on the mirth and stimuli available in a mobile existence, lending inspiration to a creative practice focused on exploration. She has had her work exhibited in venues across North America, and is available for commissions, exhibitions, publisher and gallery representation, as well as artistic partnerships.

As a lifetime lover of comics and animation, Age Of Avarice will be her first foray as a graphic novelist. A concept created over 10 years ago, the book is focused on Death embodied and how this concept made flesh would interact with the world. It includes inspiration from folklore, physics, psychology, quantum mechanics, and the power of the narrative to demonstrate the cycle of putrefaction.

During her time at The Cartoon Art Museum she will bring paints and drawing utensils to create small paintings, and will have prints, drawings, stickers, buttons and some of her art dolls for sale.
