Green & Gold Gala will commemorate ‘Decade of Distinction’

Sacramento State will celebrate President Alexander Gonzalez’ 10 years of leadership – a Decade of Distinction – during the 2013 Green & Gold Gala fundraiser, set for Friday, March 22, in the University Union Ballroom.

The black-tie event will offer dinner and dancing, and serve as a platform to announce the newly created President Alexander and Gloria Gonzalez Public Service and Community Leadership Scholarship. Gala proceeds go to the scholarship fund for outstanding students who, like the couple, strive to improve their community.

Under the President’s guidance, Sacramento State became a destination campus for thousands of students who desire academic excellence and relevant professional experience. In addition, Mrs. Gonzalez has worked to improve students’ lives through her support of scholarships and women’s empowerment efforts.

“The Green & Gold Gala committee thought it appropriate to honor them, given all they’ve done for the University,” says Holly Tiche, a member of the event committee and a Sacramento State alumna. “We hope to leave a legacy for Alex, in addition to all that he’s doing.”

Each year, one junior or senior will receive a scholarship in the amount of a full year’s tuition. The award may be renewed for an additional year.

Members of the Green & Gold Gala committee include Sacramento State alums, and community and business leaders. “We all feel honored to be on the committee, because we’re appreciative of what Alex has done on behalf of Sac State,” says Tiche, who also serves on the board of the University Foundation at Sacramento State.

Individual Gala tickets are $200. A Scholarship package is $1,000, an Event Table is $2,000, and sponsorships range from $1,000 to $50,000.
