Santa Monica Playhouse, now celebrating its 53rd year of continuous theatrical and educational services to the community, has long been at the forefront of theatre arts education. It was the first theatre in Los Angeles to provide on-going theatre workshops for youth, originated Los Angeles' first Young Professionals' Company for artists ten years old and up, and was the first company to present Main Stage professional performances for and by teens - holding the record for longest-running teen dramedy in Los Angeles and possibly in the United States (Dear Gabby: the confessions of an over-achiever - 15 years in its initial run).
