LA VERNE, Calif. — Brandon Vogel scored on a balk, Mauricio Guadarrama doubled in Adam Santa Cruz, and the University of La Verne baseball team scored a 5-4 nonconference win over the Williams College Ephs Friday afternoon,
Season Impact: The Leopards who have won four in a row and five of their last six, improve to 13-8 overall. The Ephs drop to 1-3 this season.
Nicholas Michaels and Guadarrama each finished with a pair of hits.
Hayden Firth picked up his fourth win of the season. Christopher Peres struck out two in five innings of work. Bryan Wooley took the loss for Williams.
Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth, the Leopards got their first two batters on base after a leadoff single by Vogel and a walk by Santa Cruz.
Christopher Ligot stepped up next and laid down a nice sacrifice bunt to move the runners over 90 feet. Then La Verne caught a break when a balk by Wooley sent the tying run home. Guadarrama put La Verne ahead with a double to left center.
Michales, Vogel, and Jakob Thomas each added an RBI.
Alex Panstares led the Ephs with three hits.
