TEAM USA IN SECOND AFTER DAY TWO OF TEAM EVENT

Team USA is in second place with 42 points following the second day of competition for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 Team Event. The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) is first with 45 points and Japan is third with 39 points. 

"We are so proud of our teammates today," said Team USA co-captain Madison Chock. "They fought through their performances, and this is a team event, so we are here to support them no matter what." 

Karen Chen represented Team USA in the women’s short program. Her program to

“Requiem for a Tower” and “Requiem for a Dream” featured three Level 4 elements and earned a score of 62.50. Her fifth-place finish earned 6 points for Team USA, helping the United States qualify for the free skate and free dance events. 

ROC’s Kamila Valieva won the women’s short program with 90.18 (10 points) and Japan’s Wakaba Higuchi finished second with 74.73 (9 points). Canada’s Madeline Schizas finished third with 69.60 (8 points). 

The men’s free skate kicked off the second round of team event competition, with Team USA’s Vincent Zhou earning third in the segment with 171.44 (8 points). His Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon program opened with a quad Lutz and earned Level 4 marks on three elements. 

Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama finished first with 208.94 (10 points). The ROC’s Mark Kondratiuk finished second with 181.65 (9 points).  

The team event concludes Monday with the pairs free skate, free dance and women’s free skate beginning at 9:15 a.m. (8:15 p.m. ET Sunday, Feb. 6). Fans can follow along on the U.S. Figure Skating Fan Zone Competition Central
