TEAM USA IN THE LEAD AFTER DAY ONE OF TEAM EVENT


The United States is in first place with 28 points after the first day of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 Team Event. The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) is in second with 26 points and China is third with 21.

“It was an absolutely fantastic day for the team event,” said Team USA co-captain Madison Chock. “All of our skaters brought their best, and I couldn’t be more proud of the performances they put out.”   

The men’s short program kicked off the competition Friday morning at Capital Indoor

Stadium, with Nathan Chen scoring an international personal best 111.71 points, winning the segment and securing 10 points for Team USA. His “La Boheme” program featured two quad jumps, one in combination, and all positive grades of execution.

Japan’s Shoma Uno scored 105.46 to earn second in the short program (9 points), and ROC’s Mark Kondratiuk finished third with 95.81 (8 points).  

In the rhythm dance, Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue performed their Janet Jackson program to finish first and add 10 points for the red, white and blue. They scored Level 4 on four elements en route to earn a personal best 86.56 points. 

Representing ROC, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov finished second with 85.05 points (9 points), and Italy’s Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri earned 83.83 points to finish third (8 points).  

The pairs event closed out day one of the team event, with Team USA’s Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier finishing third with 75.00 points (a personal best) to bank 8 points for the U.S. Their program to "House of The Rising Sun" was marked by clean side-by-side triple toe loops and five Level 4 elements.  

Wenjing Sui and Cong Han of China finished first with 82.83 points (10 points), and ROC’s Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov earned second with 82.64 (9 points). 

Competition for the first round of the team event concludes Sunday morning with the women’s short program beginning at 9:30 a.m. (8:30 p.m. ET Feb. 5). Full results, athlete bios and more are available on the U.S. Figure Skating Fan Zone competition central
