Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 5-1 overall.
The Sagehens were led by first-year Maggie Sweeney who tied her season-high with four goals in the win. Sophomore Sarah Woo also notched a hat-trick with three goals while first-year Eleanor Mackey tallied a multi-goal game as well with two. Junior Annie Price registered another win inside the cage with four goals in 48 minutes in goal.
The Sagehens got out to a hot start on offense as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game with quick goals from sophomore Kate Immergluck, two from Sweeney and one from fellow first-year Kiera Havill.
Roger Williams responded with their first goal of the night but Pomona-Pitzer answered with back-to-back goals from Sweeney and Woo to take a 6-1 lead with just over 20 minutes left in the first half.
The Sagehens grew their lead to 8-2 before the Hawks scored three-straight goals late in the first half to narrow the gap to 8-5. Pomona-Pitzer was able to get the last goal of the first half as Mackey netted a free position shot to take a 9-5 lead at the break.
Roger Williams came out of halftime and immediately put up some early offense. The Sagehens got in trouble with penalties and allowed Roger Williams to score the first three goals of the half to cut the lead down to just one goal at 9-8.
The Sagehens bounced back and scored four of the next five goals to take a 13-9 lead with 13:45 left to play that allowed them to have a little breathing room. The Hawks cut the lead back down to three points with just over 10 minutes to play but the Sagehens added two goals late from Woo and Mackey as they held off the Hawks for the win.
