CMS scored in each of the first three innings as Menthen earned two of the RBIs with singles in the
bottom of the second and third. Motter was 3-for-3 in his at-bats in each of the first three innings with two singles and a double. Senior Jack Witte (CMC) also reached base in his first three plate appearances due to two walks and getting hit by a pitch.
In the bottom of the third with junior Evan Opperman (CMC) on base, Eller smacked his second homer of the season high over the left field fence. The home run induced a pitching change as the Stags chased John Keane after just 2.1 innings. By the end of the inning, the Stags held the 7-1 lead but would have to depend on their defense as they did not score again in the game.
Junior starter Sam Baughman (CMC) only allowed two runs through four innings until he got into trouble in the fifth. Junior second baseman Christopher Scalisi launched a ball deep over the left field fence for a grand slam to bring the Bulldogs within one run.
Sophomore John O'Malley (CMC) came in to relieve Baughman in the seventh and pitched two scoreless innings despite having runners in scoring position with less than two outs in both innings.
CMS had another chance to score in the bottom frame of the eighth as they attempted a squeeze play with runners on the corners. A heads up play by the Redlands' pitcher denied the Stags an insurance run, sending the game into the ninth with a score of 7-6.
Freshman Mitchell Allan (CMC) earned his second save of the season as his infielders turned a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.
Despite the eighth place finish in conference standings, the Stags beat six of the eight SCIAC opponents at least once, including three of the four teams in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
