UCLA Rowing Opens Season With Home Win

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. - The UCLA women’s rowing team opened its spring season with a dual-meet victory over San Diego State on Saturday morning, competing at the Bruins’ home venue on Ballona Creek.

UCLA finished ahead of San Diego State in each of four races. The Bruins’ varsity eight logged a time of 6:15.91, finishing 4.87 seconds ahead of San Diego State’s crew (6:20.78).

UCLA’s second varsity eight posted a time of 6:21.54, crossing the finish line 20.96 seconds before SDSU’s boat (6:42.50).

The Bruins raced a pair of varsity four boats against SDSU’s V4+ crew. UCLA’s ‘A’ boat finished the race in 6:59.66 while the Bruins’ ‘B’ crew posted a time of 7:10.34. San Diego State crossed the finish line in 7:59.66.

In the first race of the morning (8 a.m.), the Bruins’ third varsity eight cruised past San Diego State’s 3V8+ by 11.81 seconds. UCLA completed the race in 6:47.75, while SDSU clocked a time of 6:59.56.

The Bruins will return to action against Loyola Marymount on Saturday, March 12. The race will take place on Ballona Creek in Marina del Rey, Calif.
