Cartoon Art Museum’s Third Thursday presents: Pretty in Ink with Trina Robbins

Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 5pm to 8pm
Free and open to the public
San Francisco, California – Join us for our December Third Thursday with author Trina Robbins, who will be discussing and signing her new book Pretty in Ink, published by Fantagraphics Books, Inc. This event is free and open to the public.

Trina Robbins will begin the event with a presentation about her new book, Pretty in Ink. A revised, updated and rewritten history of North-American women cartoonists, it uncovers startling new information that comic readers may not know about the outwardly male dominated field of comics. Comic lovers can learn about how American women entered the field of comics the with the 1896 publication of Rose O’Neill’s comic strip The Old Subscriber Calls, in Truth Magazine, and never left. Readers will also find new photos and correspondence from cartoonists Ethel Hays and Edwina Dumm, and the true story of Golden Age comic book star Lily Renee, as intriguing as the comics she drew. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the historical survey of female cartoonist from the last century.

About the Author:
Robbins has spent the last thirty years writing and recording the accomplishments of a century of women cartoonists. She has written comics and books including Chicagoland, and Lily Renee, as well as editing the reprint of the famous comic Miss Fury, and many more. She is the preeminent historian of women comic artists; forget her previous histories: Pretty in Ink is her most comprehensive volume to date.
