Rotary Club Honors Rancho Cordova Employee

Vanessa Martinez, a part-time office aide in the Rancho Cordova City Manager’s Office, has been named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rancho Cordova Rotary Club.  The award is Rotary’s most prestigious honor and is presented in appreciation of significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among people of the world.    A $1,000 donation was sent to Rotary International in honor of Martinez.

The award was established in memory of Paul Harris, a Rotary founder, to recognize outstanding contributions to the ideals of organization.  The Rancho Cordova Rotary Club honored Martinez for her considerable service to the community, school, and international causes.

Martinez, a sophomore at California State University at Sacramento, is president of the University’s Rotaract Club, a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women.  She says she has been part of the Rotary Family since she was a sophomore at Cordova High School.

“The whole experience has changed my life and I don’t think I could have met better people than the ones I’ve had the honor to work with,” she commented.  “A small act of kindness can really go a long way and with Rotary, the possibilities are endless.”

Martinez is majoring in business and plans to attend law school with a focus on immigration.

“I hope to one day own a law firm and continue to help people,” she said.
