Big Idea Theatre
Big Idea Theatre has become synonymous with high quality, entertaining, and inventive adaptations of Shakespeare's greatest works. Our latest incarnation, opening Friday, March 1, brings a favorite pastoral comedy out of the countryside and into our own backyard...literally. This spring, our production of As You Like It will pay homage to Sacramento by celebrating and examining the many facets of the capital city that we call home.
The story’s heroine, Rosalind, must flee in a desperate attempt to save her life after a coup deposes her father. Homeless and in disguise, she wanders through Sacramento’s urban wilderness, encountering an unemployed section of the population who have reached the end of the journey she now finds herself on. Despite losing all that she has ever known, Rosalind discovers love, laughter, and unexpected compassion along the way. With everything including "Arden Park", the homeless, and even a soundtrack made up of local bands, director Benjamin T Ismail has designed a genuine love letter to our hometown that is not to be missed.
The cast includes the talents of Steven Adkins, Kirk Blackinton, Joseph Boyette, Mary Katherine Cobb, Renee DeGarmo, Matthew Donaldson, Lindsay Grimes, Jamie Kale, Sean O’Brien, Michael O’Sullivan, Jay Patrick, Ryan Snyder, and Casey Worthington.
